How We Actually Do the Work

There is not much mystery in concrete. There are just a lot of places to cut corners that nobody can see afterward, and we have decided which side of that we are on.

We dig it out properly

Soft topsoil and loose clay come out and get replaced with compacted stone. This is the most commonly skipped step in the trade and the most expensive one to skip, because the slab above it has nothing to stand on and the failure does not show up for three or four years.

We pour it thick enough

Thickness is set by what goes on top, not by what makes the quote look better next to somebody else's. If a bid you got is noticeably cheaper, ask both contractors for the thickness and the base depth in writing. That is usually where the difference is hiding.

We cut the joints on time

Control joints have to be cut within hours of the pour, at the right depth and spacing. Cut late or spaced too far apart and the slab cracks wherever it likes instead of on the line you gave it.

We deal with the water

Grade gets planned before the forms go in, and we will tell you if a downspout or a low spot is going to undermine the new work. Fixing the drainage at the same time is often the difference between flatwork that lasts twenty years and flatwork that repeats the last slab's history.

We clean up after ourselves

Debris leaves with us, edges get backfilled and raked, and washout goes where it belongs. The yard should be usable the day we finish.

Licensed, Insured, and Easy to Check

We carry liability insurance and workers' compensation, and we will hand you a certificate of insurance before work starts if you want one on file. Anyone working on your property should be able to produce that without hesitating.

Tennessee licenses contractors through a state board, and license status is public. You can look up any contractor, including us, through the Tennessee Board for Licensing Contractors. We would rather you check than take our word for it.

What Working With Us Looks Like

Someone comes out and looks at the job in person. Free, and not a pretext for a sales pitch. We measure, check the grade and access, look at what the existing concrete is doing, and talk through the options, including the option of doing less than you were planning. You get a written price for described work before you commit to anything.

We do the same care on a small job as a large one. A single settled walkway panel gets the same base work as a full driveway, because a repair that fails in two years is worse than no repair. The same applies to the flatwork around the house and to decorative finishes, where the pattern only looks as good as the slab underneath it.
